JU students hold classes outside in protest against campus issues

History students of Jadavpur University held their classes outside Subarna Jayanti Bhavan on Monday, continuing a series of protests against administrative concerns. Instead of attending lectures inside classrooms, students conducted open-air classes as a demonstration. Previously, students from the English and other departments had also staged similar protests, demanding changes in university policies and decisions.

The protest comes amid ongoing tensions at Jadavpur University following recent campus incidents, including allegations of harassment during a teachers’ conference and debates over student elections and security arrangements. Students argue that this method of protest allows them to continue their education while raising concerns about administrative transparency and faculty accountability. University authorities have yet to respond to the demonstration.

Jadavpur University, a premier institution, recently saw an improvement in its QS World University Ranking from 741-750 to 721-730 despite the ongoing protests and campus unrest. Students continue to push for reforms while ensuring that academic activities remain uninterrupted. Further demonstrations and discussions on these issues are expected in the coming days.
